About the Opportunity:

“FUTURES” is an upcoming exhibition at ArtsWestchester that places artists at the center of imagining our region’s next chapter. ArtsWestchester asks artists to respond to the prompt: What can the Hudson Valley look like in 100 years? The exhibition explores concepts of historic land ownership, building inclusive communities, creative placemaking, and sustainable development.

As an inclusive and alternative space located in downtown White Plains, the ArtsWestchester gallery offers residents a point of entry into contemporary art. With 4,800 sq feet of exhibition space, ArtsWestchester has been on a relentless journey to transform the historically preserved Grand Banking Hall into a pulsating hub of artistic innovation.

Artists, working in all 2D and 3D media are invited to submit existing works for potential inclusion in the FUTURES exhibit, scheduled to open October 14th, 2024 and close January 12th, 2025. Selected artists shall receive an honorarium of $150.

About ArtsWestchester’s Exhibition Programming:

ArtsWestchester is committed to supporting and promoting regional artists. The organization acquired the former People’s National Trust building in 1998 and converted it into a venue for the arts. As an arts center in the heart of downtown White Plains, the organization plays a major role in raising awareness and inspiring discussion about contemporary local and global issues. ArtsWestchester’s Public Programs department showcases regional artists and advances thoughtfulness about topics that resonate within the community.

ArtsWestchester’s Gallery program has included Modern Families, a photographic inquiry into an expanded look at who and what constitutes the American family and She, a deconstruction of female identity and reflection of modern womanhood. In 2024, ArtsWestchester will present Futures, an exhibition looking at how the Hudson Valley’s built environment will change for future generations.

Past exhibitions for The Arts Exchange series have included group exhibitions by the White Plains Puerto Rican Cultural Committee, Inc., which explored Puerto Rican heritage, and The Ground Glass, a show by a local member-based photography organization.

We believe that artists and creatives are at the heart of Westchester’s cultural community. Their work sustains creative projects and fuels our cities and towns with vibrancy. We know that with the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus and implementation of the social restriction measures to contain the spread of the virus, artists in all disciplines have lost critical opportunities to earn income and support their well-being. With this in mind, ArtsWestchester has issued a call to action, seeking donations from our community towards an Artist Relief fund. While we cannot forecast the total amount available through the fund, we will continue collecting donations indefinitely and distributing grants to artists as contributions come in. The number of artists we can support is directly dependent on how much funding is raised. Artists can help this effort by sharing the GoFundMe campaign on their social platforms.

ArtsWestchester will award grants of $500 to individual Westchester artists who have suffered a loss of work due to Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).
