PROJECT OVERVIEW: ArtsWestchester is pleased to announce a new artist opportunity for local area muralists through its involvement with NY State's CHARM (Cultivating Havens for the Arts through Regional Murals) program. ArtsWestchester proposes installing murals in Westchester and Rockland County. ArtsWestchester is working with partners to identify available walls and obtain site control. Artists interested in being considered for a mural opportunity are asked to submit their qualifications via this application.
Artists should consider that this project will take place in heavily trafficked areas of the county that will be available for the rest of the year, attracting visitors from Connecticut, New Jersey, and the NYC-metro area.
Community engagement is also an important component of this initiative. Artists play submit ideas for workshops or other activations as part of their letter of interest.
RFQ DEADLINE: Qualifications must be submitted online by July 31, 2026, 11:59PM, E.S.T.
Qualifications will be reviewed on a rolling basis during the Open Call period, as well as after the deadline. Artists are strongly encouraged to submit early.
ELIGIBILITY: Artists must be 18 or older to apply. Artists who reside, work or maintain a studio in New York State are strongly encouraged to apply, but artists outside of New York State will be considered.
PROJECT BUDGET: Artists invited to submit proposals shall be furnished with an honorarium. Final project budgets will be determined by the site requirements and shall be considered all inclusive. covering no less than artist fee, materials, insurance, transportation to the site and installation.
HOW TO APPLY: All submissions must be made electronically, via submittable. No submissions via email or mail, or in person shall be accepted. Artists must first indicate which mural site they are interested in submitting a proposal for. Artists interested in being considered for this opportunity must submit the following:
1. A current resume/CV, particularly highlighting relevant experience (required) 2. Artist statement (required) 3. Minimum of 5, up to 10 images of original completed artworks (Work Samples) (required) 4. Work Samples Checklist (required) 5. Letter of interest (required) 6. Sketches or renderings of potential murals or available artwork in progress (optional)
Applicants are encouraged to apply early to reduce risk of technical difficulties. Incomplete, late, hand delivered, mailed or emailed submissions will NOT be accepted for any reason.
SCOPE OF WORK: Finalists invited to submit full proposals will be given complete details about requirements, but should expect to provide the following:
- 2D renderings of the proposed site specific mural
- 2D renderings of the proposed mural in situ, which shows the physical volume of the space, its dimensions and allows for multiple perspectives of the artwork within the space.
- Material samples, if applicable.
- Installation requirements.
- A project statement.
- An all-inclusive project budget, not to exceed the overall budget of the project, including artist fees, material costs, transportation costs, creation/installation costs, and contingency.
- Quotes from proposed subcontractors, if applicable.
- Additional materials may be requested at the time artists are invited to submit proposals.
